Diane Sawyer Stepping Down As Anchor Of "ABC World News"

Diane Sawyer is leaving the anchor desk of "ABC World News," the network revealed on Wednesday.

Sawyer, 68, has anchored the nightly flagship program since 2009.

David Muir, who hosts "20/20" and fronts "ABC World News" on weekends, will replace Sawyer.

According to several reports, the veteran newsman will run a news team for ABC that will emphasize on big interviews and news specials.

ABC News President James Goldston said in a statement: "As much as she has loved leading World News to new heights - with so much important, brilliant and impactful reporting and a number one finish in the May sweep - Diane has decided that now is the moment to concentrate full time on tackling big issues in new ways."
